After studying handbag design at the prestigious London College of Fashion, Jennifer Hamley was inspired to start her own label.
But she needed expert business advice to make her dream a reality so turned to BRAVE Enterprise Agency for help. We advised Jennifer as part of the New Enterprise Allowance (NEA) scheme.
Jennifer was assigned an experienced business mentor, Liz Gjoni, who helped her put together a professional business plan and launch her new label Jennifer Hamley, England. She also received a weekly allowance that helped relieve some of the financial pressure on Jennifer who was working part-time in a bar to make ends meet.
Just months after completing the NEA scheme, Jennifer scooped a prestigious international fashion award. She beat five other finalists to win the unisex work bag category of the Independent Handbag Designer Awards in New York City.
Jennifer’s innovative bag is designed to provide solutions for the busy business executive and features many sections and pockets, including a removable tablet/ipad case, reusable shopping bag, and USB power pack. The prize-winning bag formed part of her launch collection.
Jennifer said: “I’m ecstatic to have been recognised for my talents so early in my business journey.
“I am especially thankful to Liz Gjoni of BRAVE for guiding me through the business plan. Through methodically writing down costings, forecasts and goals the plan seemed to make everything clearer.
“The support and advice I got from BRAVE while on the New Enterprise Allowance scheme was invaluable and inspirational. And the extra money I received really helped as well and allowed me to focus on developing my business.”
Since winning her award Jennifer has secured the financial backing she needs from investors to grow her luxury workbag range.
Liz Sands, director of BRAVE Enterprise, said: “Starting a business can be a daunting challenge. But as Jennifer has shown, the New Enterprise Allowance scheme provides valuable support during those crucial first weeks and months.
“Our team of experienced business advisors can equip aspiring entrepreneurs like Jennifer with the skills and confidence they need to turn their ideas into real business success stories.”
