Guild of Guardians celebrate talented craftsman

Jim Sharples with Lord Mayor of Bristol

The Guild of Guardians has presented the annual Alfred Telling Award to BRAVE client Jim Sharples.

The Alfred Telling Award is a bursary of £1,500 for an entrepreneur starting their own business in the manual trade. Jim is a furniture maker who uses local timber sourced within a 50 mile radius of Bristol. He produces handcrafted furniture on a commission basis and is currently developing his own furniture range.

Based in Backwell, Jim took part in the New Entrepreneur Scholarship scheme through BRAVE in 2004 which helped him set up his business and provided him with a small grant to get him started.

The picture shows Jim receiving his award from The Right Honourable The Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Christopher Davies.
